Cho-Han Lee is trying to determine if the pill burden created by the comorbid diseases would affect the antiretroviral therapy (ART) adherence. Prescription claims from 8 in-clinic pharmacies in Orange and Los Angeles counties were used to identify 1,777 HIV patients who filled 147,758 prescriptions for all prescription drugs between 2011 and 2015. Medication possession ratio (MPR) was used to measure the adherence of ART. Logistic models were used to estimate the likelihood of reaching good ART adherence (MPR ≥ 80%) controlling for non-ART drug count per day, ART single-tab regime and patient characteristics. Lee also identified the association between the treatment adherence and the guideline enacted by Department of Human Health Services (DHHS) that using two nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTI) plus a third agent as the ART.
Cho-Han Lee will discuss his findings and conclusion during his presentation “The Impact Of Total Pill Burden On Treatment Adherence Of Antiretroviral Therapy” on Tuesday, October 4, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The poster will also be displayed on Wednesday, October 5.
